MBA in USA – Suggestions and what to KNOW

Posted by bmsceiaa on November 20, 2006

Hi Anu,

How are you doing? I will try to answer few of your questions but this is what I think and these thoughts may vary from person to person.

First of all be clear about your short term and long term goals. If MS or MBA helps you in your career path then give your best shot. I am not much aware about MS program but I can guide with respect to MBA. I myself is doing MBA from UCLA Anderson School of Management, Los Angeles.

If you want to do MBA from any good Business School in US, then you need to have atleast 2-3 years of work experience. For that matter doing an MBA without a work experience won’t benefit you much. As for the universties, you have to do a thorough research with respect to your goal in life. For example, if your area of interest is marketing then you would like to go to B-School which has a good marketing prog. etc

Procedure : Appear for GMAT and TOEFL. Then do university research specific to your area of interest. Fill the applications, each uni. application requires you to write at least 3-4 essays. Topic of essays are mentioned in the applications. Essays are very important and you have to spend a lot of time on it. After this, if applicable give an interview (could be alumni, phone or one-to-one) and then just wait for results. The whole application process is time consuming and so you need to schedule everything accordingly.

If you need any help regarding GMAT or application process, then you can mail me anytime. Wish you all the best.
