Hello everyone! I am a 1994-98 batch alumnus of electrical & electronics engg (EEE)& am currently pursuing my MBA. I was with TVS Electronics previously. I do agree with Arun Cavale that speaker sessions are a good way to build student-alumni contact. They offer alumni an ideal way to remain connected with the alma matar and also give them access to fresh talent. For students, this will be an excellent opportunity to meet with and learn from the experiences of the alumni and this would hopefully help them better understand the current trends and requirements in the industry and hence enable them to make better informed career decisions. Also, it gives them access to their own people who are already active in their targetted industry/field and this can certainly prove to be an advantage in our competitive world where "who you know" is probably becoming more relevant than just "what you know"! It is therefore a very good means for them to seek help and advice. It will be great if the IAA in partnership with the college/ dept management can get this going. Kudos to Arun for sticking his neck out and I'm sure the others too will be willing to share their experiences with the current batch at BMS. Let me end this rather long mail with a note to Arun (& others like him who "crossed over" into management): While it may be true that Kinematics, Thermodynamics, Kirchoff's laws and Electromagnetic fields have given way to Porter's forces, NPV & Discounted cash flow analysis, Hedge ratio's and interest-exchange-inflation rate theories, I still think it will be very useful if you do interact with the current engg students in addition to the MBA batch at BMS as you will bring in the BE-MBA perspective and also be a good source of info (& I dare say a "reality check"!)for those looking to follow in your footsteps! Hope this program gets the support of the rest of the team and does start soon. Thanks & Warm Regards, Anand. --- Anand Kannan MBA 2006 Candidate Sauder School of Business University of British Columbia Vancouver, Canada Mobile: +1-604-719-1350 --- Arun K Cavale wrote: > > > > Arun K Cavale wrote:To: > iaabms@yahoo.com > Subject: Note from an alumnus > From: Arun K Cavale > Date: Mon, 11 Apr 2005 12:25:51 +0530 > > > Team, > > Kudos for the good work so far. > > I'm an alumnus from the 1993-97 batch of Mech Engg > (have already registered, but using a different > email id to compose this mail - please do not > re-register me!!). > > Through this note, I thought I would suggest one > possible avenue for greater student-alumni > interaction: Alumni offering Guest speaker services > to current students.
